Befriending a little girl
I volunteered to help out as assistant teacher in charge of 10 children on a day excursion. I noticed that there was a girl call her Kelly, who was very lively and full of good humor, curiosity and questions . She was not popular with the teachers as she was hyperactive and not very compliant to rules and discipline about falling in line when walking from place A to B. She was reprimanded on at least 3 occasions for not listening to instructions and for talking unnecessarily. I saw a broken spirit in a young body. Because she was always getting into trouble with the teachers , the other children…

I helped the elderly
It was during the peak hours then, when i got up the SBS bus with my sister and her friend. We were making our way home after school. The seats were all occupied and it took a while for us to find a seat and settle down. After a few stops, an elderly woman hobbled up the bus with great difficulty, holding a walking stick. I stood up and offered my seat to her. She thanked me and i was very happy. Seeing the smile on her face, i felt veery delighted. I hope i can help more people again.

Wholesome Goodness
I lent a listening ear and time to a friend who is terminally ill. Through the months,we share knowledge on holistic cures for terminal illnesses and found time to practice what we knew. My friend found solace in confiding his inner thoughts with me, a total stranger when we first knew each other till his last days on earth. I got to share with him the little of the Buddhadharma that I knew. Hopefully his last thoughts and aspirations when he made his exit from this world would be to steer towards the Path to Buddhahood. That would have been great!

Memorizing of metta sutta
The Dharma talks given by Ven. Heng Sure had brought me back to my practice. Due to my laziness and defilements, I’ve slacked in my practice for a period of time. After the talk on Saturday in Singapore, I’ve made an aspiration to memorize the KaraṇīyamettÄ Sutta. Although I’ve not finish memorizing but I’m 10% through.

accidentally fulfilled a dharma sister’s wish + distributing food to low income families
today (22nd Nov 2010) was a joyful day. in the morning, i met up with fellow dharma sister Lynn for breakfast and handed over to her a set of DVD – Venerabele Hui Lu’s dharma talk on Diamond Sutra. I didn’t expect that she was overjoyed – she had been looking for the DVD for quite some time and in fact had made a wish that she someone could pass her the DVD…. Giving brings happiness – not just to the giver, but to the receiver as well in the evening, i joined a group of regular volunteers for a weekly food distribution project (initiated by a local social enterprise…

Helping my mother do housework
Today is the first day of my school holidays. As I am learning housekeeping, I help my mother to put in the mattress linings and mop the floor. I feel good because not only have I helped my mother do housework, the house is neater and less dirty. My family members can now walk around in the house on a cleaner floor. I am also happy that my mother praises and thank me for my help.

The sruprise visit at the watercooler
While at the water cooler to get my drinks today, 3 young girls from Singpapore Polytechnic suddenly came up to me and asked me if i wanted my laptop cleaned. I just stood there stunned for a moment until they continued to explain it is for a school project that they are doing where they are given $5 and with this $5, they are supposed to collect more money for some CLS Needy Fund. I thought it was quite interesting and invited them into my office and asked around if anyone wanted their laptop cleaned. In the end they managed to collect $6 altogether from my friend and I who…

Making My Colleague Feel Positive
My company management has been putting a lot of pressure on my friend & colleague. He wants to retire early, but at the same time, he could not bear to part with his salary. Today, he told me that he would resign afterall. I told him that it’s indeed a good thing to do. He could spend more time with his family & children. I see him brighten up and I am happy for him. We had tea chatting about life.
